A silver lining of the pandemic has been a less scheduled life with more time at home with family. Many homeowners have seized the moment to update their homes and landscape to create something they are proud of and that is multifunctional for their family. We rounded up some of our favorite designs this year from across the country! From a pool perched high atop a terrace in Hawaii to a unique shaped pool in South Carolina and a gorgeous spa-like oasis in Ohio – check out some of our faves below!

10. California

We love the shallow entry of the pool for lounging or for kids to play. The circular hot tub with the garden backdrop and rectangular pool and patio is visually stimulating and fun.

9. Colorado

Raised planting beds were a huge trend this year and we love the look of these large beds surrounded by crushed limestone. This spacious yard has a nice flow to utilize the many different features, a fire pit, dining area, garden and play area.

8. Illinois

The woodland feel that was created by this Tilly designer is a great escape for this bustling Chicago suburban home. The beautiful mature trees were complimented with pops of color and plants that will flower at different points throughout the year.

7. Florida

We love how this pool wraps around the bend of the house maximizing hard to use space. This backyard destination has room for lounge chairs, an outdoor dining table, and a separate seating area.

6. New Jersey

The waterfall at the end of this pool with the raised patio and fireplace area behind it adds interest and fun to the space. The pool house, clean lines and linear plantings give the whole space a fresh feel!

5. California

This backyard is actually a side yard maximized to the fullest! Our design team was able to fit a dining table under a pergola, lounge space with sectional seating and a vertical garden for a splash of interest in the small space.

4. South Carolina

The unique shape of this pool makes it a showstopper and a focal point for a super chic entertaining space. This modern coastal vibe is one that guests won’t forget!

3. Ohio

With a lake backdrop behind it, Tilly created a beautiful formal lounge area with an outdoor fireplace. We love the enclosure and intimacy the low stone wall creates.

2. Arizona

We love this great use of space for a young family. This design includes a sunken fire pit lounge, a retractable covered sandpit, vertically hung chalkboards, and a mini bike track. Such a fun yard for a long year!

1. Hawaii

This dreamy oasis has a curved infinity edge pool perched at the edge of this home’s terrace to take advantage of the dramatic views. The pool features alcoves for two hammocks, the ultimate luxury perk!

We have found the Tilly process to be most successful on properties less than an acre.

A major part of remote design is understanding a property’s existing conditions and limitations. To do this we generally use the primary structure (usually the house) as the main point of reference. The greater distances are from from the house the less successful we are at understanding your property. No matter what the size of your property, the more information you can provide us, the better. Don’t be shy with the pictures! And please send along any and all architectural or property plan documents you can.
